Behind the Scenes: Soft Construct

For the September issue of PERIOD, Soft Construct explored a quieter approach to menswear through clean silhouettes, pleated textures and a restrained palette of white, blue, navy and soft green.

The shoot was intentionally minimal. Rather than relying on an elaborate set, the focus stayed on the relationship between the clothes, the model and the light. Against a simple pale blue background, natural-looking directional light created the shadows and subtle tonal changes that shaped the final images.

Behind the finished editorial was a much more relaxed process. The shoot took place in a small, controlled setting with a limited setup, allowing the session to move quickly between standing portraits, seated compositions and closer beauty-style frames. Much of the visual interest came from small adjustments in posture, the movement of the pleated fabrics and the way the light changed across each look.

The result is an editorial that feels calm and effortless, but the behind-the-scenes images reveal the experimentation that went into finding that balance.
