DENIM SEASON
Denim has never really belonged to a single season, but autumn is when it feels most at home.
For DENIM SEASON, PERIOD DIGITAL returns to one of menswear’s most enduring materials and strips it back to what makes it work: weight, texture, proportion and attitude. Photographed by Christopher Klause and featuring Ole Vaughn, the editorial approaches denim less as a casual uniform and more as the foundation of an autumn wardrobe.
Against a warm, understated studio backdrop, deep indigo, washed blue and faded denim are layered with heavyweight knits, turtlenecks, wool outerwear and simple leather boots. The palette deliberately stays restrained, allowing subtle differences in wash and texture to become the focus.
There is a quiet confidence to the styling. Oversized jeans fall loosely over boots, structured jackets contrast with soft knitwear, and lighter denim breaks apart the darker monochromatic looks. Nothing feels overworked. Instead, the story relies on silhouette and proportion, showing how familiar pieces can feel completely different when the shape changes.
Vaughn moves between relaxed full-length portraits and tighter studies, giving the story a more personal rhythm. A slouched pose on a wooden stool feels almost candid, while sharper standing frames emphasize the elongated lines of the clothing. Wet, straight hair and minimal grooming keep the look contemporary without competing with the wardrobe.
The simplicity of the set is intentional. Neutral tones, warm directional light and only the occasional chair or stool allow the clothing to dominate. It gives the photographs an almost timeless quality, somewhere between a traditional studio portrait and a modern menswear campaign.
DENIM SEASON is not about reinventing denim. It is about remembering why we continue returning to it.
